This Privacy Policy explains how (“UCamChat”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects personal data when you use ucamchat.com (the “Service”). We have written it to be clear and readable. If anything is unclear, contact us at contact@ucamchat.com.

Who we are

The short version

  • You don’t need an account to start chatting.
  • We collect the data needed to connect chats, run the Service, process payments and keep users safe.
  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • You have rights over your data, and you can contact us to use them.

Data we collect

Depending on how you use the Service, we may collect:

  • Technical data: IP address, device and browser type, operating system, language settings and connection quality. This is needed to connect chats and protect the Service.
  • Chat data: the gender you choose, connection logs such as start and end times, and chat messages so they can be translated and delivered.
  • Payment data: when you buy credits, our payment provider processes your payment details. We receive confirmation of the purchase and limited details such as the last digits of the card and the transaction ID. We do not store full card numbers.
  • Credit data: your credit balance, purchase dates and expiry dates, so that credits remain valid for one year.
  • Contact data: your name, email address and message when you contact us.
  • Safety data: reports you make or that are made about you, and the information needed to investigate them.

We do not intentionally collect data from anyone under 18. The Service is for adults only.

How we use your data

We use personal data to:

  • connect you with other users and deliver video, audio and messages;
  • translate chat messages between languages;
  • provide trials, process purchases and manage credit balances;
  • prevent fraud, abuse and illegal activity, and enforce our Terms;
  • respond to support requests and reports;
  • understand how the Service is used so we can improve it, using aggregated data where possible;
  • comply with legal obligations, including requests from authorities where the law requires it.

Where data protection laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on these legal bases: performance of a contract (providing the Service and the credits you buy), legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention and improving the Service), legal obligations (tax, accounting and lawful requests from authorities) and consent where it is required, for example for non-essential cookies.

Sharing your data

We share personal data only with:

  • service providers who help us run the Service, such as hosting, video infrastructure, translation, payment processing and customer support providers, under contracts that protect your data;
  • the other user in a chat, who receives your video, audio and messages in real time as part of the Service;
  • authorities, when the law requires it or when needed to protect users, including reporting suspected content involving minors;
  • a buyer or successor if our business is sold or merged, subject to this policy.

We do not sell your personal data.

International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to protect it.

We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes above. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.

Cookies and local storage

We use a small amount of storage on your device. For example, after you confirm that you are 18 or older, your browser remembers this in local storage so the site doesn’t ask again on every visit.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • correct inaccurate data;
  • delete your data;
  • restrict or object to certain processing;
  • receive your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent where we rely on it;
  • complain to a data protection authority.

Security

We use technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encrypted connections. No online service can be completely secure, so please protect yourself as well: never share personal or financial details in chats, and remember that the other user could record their own screen.

Children

UCamChat is strictly for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using the Service, report it to us immediately at contact@ucamchat.com and we will act on it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new “last updated” date and, for significant changes, take reasonable steps to let users know.
